In order to avoid malfunctions when using a HOTPOINT washing machine, the belt should be changed. If it is a Poly V belt, it must be aligned with the two pulleys. If the belt is worn or stretched, it will slip.
The drum is not being driven properly during the wash cycle. If the belt tends to come off on the drum pulley, the pulley may be misaligned or the washing machine may have bearing problems. As a result, the belt on the pulley is off center. Manually rotate the drum and, from above, check to see if the pulley rotation is normal or off-center. When you place the belt on the sprocket and pulley, it tends to come off the pulley. The type of belt on this model of washing machine is usually a five-way flat belt. You should check to make sure that when the belt turns, the pulley does not turn off center. If it does, the belt on the HOTPOINT washing machine must be re-tensioned to prevent it from slipping. It is rare that the washing machine pulley wears out, causing a slope on one side.
It may be that when a large load of laundry is inserted into the washing machine, the temperature during the wash cycle is higher and the belt may stretch and therefore not stay in place. You can also perform a dynamic test, i.e. load the washing machine with a large quantity of clothes and turn it on to see what happens.
