Belt problems are common in washing machines that are used regularly. The belt of your machine is probably defective if the spinning does not work properly, the drum turns with difficulty or not at all, and you hear the motor running in a vacuum. In the latter case, the belt has broken. Turn off and unplug the washing machine. Turn the machine over for easy access to the back panel and remove the door with a screwdriver. Remove the panel and locate the belt, which is usually located at the bottom. Pull on the belt by rotating the pulley. Read the reference on the inside of the belt. If the belt is elastic, there will be no number on the part. There are flat belts and toothed belts. These are the most common types used by washing machine manufacturers. It is necessary to note the length of the belt and the number of teeth. Place the new belt on the motor shaft and stretch it until it is secured to the pulley. Turn the pulley while holding the belt. Make sure the piece is not sticking out the back and rotate it into place. Run a wash cycle without putting any laundry in the drum. Check at the end of the cycle to make sure the belt has remained on the spinning shaft. Replace the back plate of the unit and the screws.
